MEET Dr. Brett Beber, MD, FRCS

Dr. Brett Beber, MD, FRCSC, is a board certified plastic surgeon who has been practicing in Toronto for over 18 years. Dr. Beber brings a wealth of cosmetic surgery experience to his patients, offering popular surgical procedures such as breast enhancement and body contouring.
We explain to our patients what a tummy tuck surgery is when they come to Beber Surgery asking about it. We think knowing what happens during surgery helps patients feel more prepared and confident in their decision. The tummy tuck operation, also known as abdominoplasty, is a surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens the muscles underneath to make the area flatter and more toned. PRP hair restoration stimulates natural hair growth using the body’s own healing properties. This non-surgical treatment strengthens existing follicles and promotes thicker, healthier hair. Over time, patients notice improved density and renewed confidence in their appearance. The surgery takes 2-5 hours depending on how much needs to be fixed and if other procedures are being done at the same time. We put you to sleep with general anesthesia so you won’t feel anything during the surgery. While you’re standing up, we make detailed marks on your stomach before the procedure starts. These marks help us during the surgery and ensure the results look natural and even. Labia reduction reshapes and refines the intimate area for improved comfort and confidence. The procedure can reduce irritation during physical activity or clothing wear. Patients enjoy enhanced aesthetic balance and a natural, symmetrical result. We make an incision across the bottom of your abdomen when you’re asleep. We decide where to make this incision so it’s low enough to be covered by your underwear or swimsuit. The length of the incision depends on how much excess skin needs to be removed. The incision may go from hip to hip for some patients but for others it may need to be shorter. We cut through this incision to detach the skin from the abdominal wall and move up towards your ribs. One of the most important parts of a tummy tuck is fixing the abdominal muscles. Many of our patients have divided or weak muscles, usually due to pregnancy or weight gain. We bring these muscles back together in the middle and sew them together. This makes the base of your abdomen stronger and flatter. This muscle repair is what gives you that toned, defined waistline that exercise alone can’t give you. We pull the excess skin down and remove it after we tighten the muscles. We also remove the excess fat in the area and sometimes use liposuction to make the shapes more defined. If you have a belly button, we make a new opening for it in the skin that has been moved so it’s in a natural place. We then carefully stitch up all the cuts and put in surgical drains to help get rid of excess fluid in the first few days of recovery. We do tummy tucks a lot at our Toronto practice as part of a “Mommy Makeover”. We combine the tummy tuck with other procedures to help the body heal after pregnancy. This way patients can address more than one issue in one surgery and heal from everything at once. Most patients go home the same day as the surgery but some choose to stay overnight at our hospital or a local recovery centre. You will get compression clothes to help your stomach heal and prevent swelling. We will also give you painkillers and clear instructions on how to take care of yourself while you heal. Most people feel the worst in the first few days after the surgery. You may feel some pain, tightness, swelling and bruising but the pain medicine will help you manage it. Most people are up and moving around slowly within a day or two which helps them heal and reduces the risk of complications. For the first week or so you shouldn’t bend at the waist or stand up straight. You should also sleep with your upper body slightly raised. If you’re thinking of getting a tummy tuck in Toronto, we’d love for you to book a consultation with us. We’ll look at your stomach, talk about your goals, explain what will happen during the surgery and answer all your questions. Before you make any decisions about your care we want you to feel like you have all the information you need and are comfortable.
