Breast surgery and body contouring are two of the most common parts of the mommy makeover. If your breasts have gotten bigger and heavier and are causing you pain, you may need a breast reduction. If you’ve lost volume after breastfeeding, you may need an augmentation. If your breasts have started to sag, you may need a lift. Sometimes you may need both a lift and implants. Most mommy makeovers include a tummy tuck to get rid of excess skin on the tummy and pull apart muscles back together. Many women also get liposuction to get rid of fat that won’t go away in areas like the flanks, thighs or back.
The first step is to design the operation during your consultation. We’ll talk about your goals and concerns, look at the areas you want to work on and create a surgical plan for your body. We’ll also take pictures and measurements to help us plan the surgery in detail. We’ll mark your body while you’re standing up on the day of the surgery. These marks help us during surgery and ensure the results look natural and symmetrical.
You’ll be asleep during the surgery as you’ll be under general anesthesia. It varies on what kind of surgery you’re having but most mommy makeovers take between 3-6 hours. If you’re having both breast surgery and a tummy tuck, we usually start with one area and then move to the other. We’ll make sure you’re comfortable and safe the whole time.
We make an incision across your lower abdomen for the tummy tuck part. This incision can be hidden by underwear or a swimsuit. We cut through this incision to remove excess skin and fat, fix divided abdominal muscles and move your belly button. The location of the incision for breast surgery varies on the type of surgery you’re having. For a breast lift, cuts might be made around the areola and down to the crease of the breast. For augmentation, cuts might be made under the breast or around the areola. A breast lift rejuvenates the appearance of the chest by restoring firmness and youthful positioning. This procedure corrects sagging caused by aging, weight changes, or pregnancy. The result is a more elevated, natural contour that enhances both comfort and self-assurance.
Our first priority at our Toronto office is the safety of our patients during any mommy makeover surgery. We use the latest surgical techniques, keep an eye on the patient during the procedure and follow proven safety rules to minimize risks and get the best possible result. Most patients go home the same day as their surgery but some choose to stay overnight at our hospital or a local rehabilitation centre.
It takes time to heal after a mommy makeover and you may need help at home especially if you have young kids. You’ll need help for at least the first few days as you won’t be able to lift anything heavy or do hard work. Most moms take a break from work and normal life for 2-3 weeks. While your body heals you should avoid heavy lifting and hard activity for about 6 weeks. Breast revision surgery refines or corrects the results of previous procedures for improved symmetry and satisfaction. Each treatment is tailored to meet the patient’s evolving goals and expectations. The goal is to achieve beautiful, natural-looking results that align with the patient’s current aesthetic vision.
As the swelling goes down and your body heals the benefits of your mommy makeover will get better over time. You’ll see a big difference right away but the full benefits usually don’t show up until around 6 months after surgery.
