How long will I be hunched over after a tummy tuck In Toronto?

It takes time to heal after a tummy tuck and sitting and standing during the healing process is a big part of that. Patients at Beber Plastic Surgery ask how long they will have to lean over after surgery. This is a good question because it will determine how comfortable and active you will be during your recovery.

Your surgeon will remove excess skin and tighten your abdominal muscles during a tummy tuck in Toronto. This will make your stomach look firmer and flatter. This is a big change to your stomach and naturally you will adjust to it in the weeks after surgery. After surgery you will find standing up straight is hard or even impossible. This is normal and what you should expect. Most patients walk with a small bend in their body for the first one to two weeks after surgery. Your body is getting used to the new shape of your stomach and the tissues are healing during this time. The hunched position helps with pain and strain on the incision line. We always tell our patients that this temporary position is safe and helps them heal. Breast Lifts lift and reshape sagging breasts for a firmer, more youthful contour.

People hunch different amounts. Some people may just need to bend a little at the waist while others may feel better with a more obvious forward lean. There are many factors that affect this such as the type of surgery you had, how much pain you can handle and how your body heals. Generally patients who had more significant muscle rehabilitation may need more time to get used to their new posture.

Many patients start to feel better by the end of the first week. You will still feel most comfortable with a small forward bend but the angle will not be as strong. At this point moving about should start to feel easier but you should still avoid anything that puts stress on your stomach. Even if you can’t stand up straight yet walking is still important at this stage because it helps with circulation and prevents problems from happening.

Most people can stand up straighter after about two weeks but it’s normal for the abdomen to still feel tight. This feeling is like how your muscles feel after a hard workout but it lasts longer. As your tissues heal and get used to their new shape the tightness will get less and less. We tell our patients to listen to their body and not rush the process of getting up.

Most people in Toronto will have their slumped posture go away between weeks two and four. This timeframe can be a little longer depending on the situation. Some patients may still feel a dragging sensation when they try to stand up straight which can make them unintentionally keep their body bent. This is how your body protects itself and making yourself stand up straight before you’re ready can hurt your results.

By the end of six weeks almost all patients can stand up straight without pain. Your abdominal muscles have had enough time to heal and the incision line is now very strong. At this point you can normally go back to most of your daily activities but you should still avoid heavy lifting and hard exercise until your surgeon says it’s okay. We give you specific instructions on how to stand and move during your recovery. Sleeping with your knees and back supported by pillows helps you sleep more comfortably. This position puts less stress on your stomach and helps you heal faster. Using pillows to support yourself when sitting can make a big difference in how comfortable you are.

Managing your pain is key if you want to be able to change your posture over time. Patients find it easier to straighten up when their pain is under control. We work with each patient to make sure they have the right pain management options so they can heal safely while still being able to move. We can also discuss how combining surgeries can affect your overall recovery time if you’re considering subsequent procedures like breast augmentation.

After a tummy tuck you will be hunched over for a short while. This is a critical part of your healing process. This position may feel strange or painful at first but it preserves your surgery site and helps your body heal. Most patients notice they can stand up straighter and straighter over the first few weeks. Most of the time they are fully healed between four to six weeks.

These are general timelines but your experience may be a little different because everyone heals at their own pace. During follow up appointments we keep a close eye on your progress to make sure everything is healing as it should. If you have any concerns about your posture or healing at any time we’re always here to answer your questions and help. A slumped posture may be uncomfortable for a short while but the long term benefits of a flatter, more contoured stomach that makes you feel good about yourself is worth it.
