Common Myths About Breast Augmentation Debunked by Dr. Brett Beber

Dr Brett Beber - Breast Augmentation Myths

In 2015, over 275,000 women had breast augmentation making it the #1 procedure performed.  This number was up 31% since 2000.  Having this growth and popularity it most certainly creates myths about breast augmentation that could deter women from considering this procedure versus helping women boost their self-esteem and confidence.

Dr. Brett Beber believes that patient education is essential for every surgical procedure and being armed with accurate information will help patients achieve their personal goals.

Some of the myths about breast augmentation that Dr. Beber has come across are grossly inaccurate and can scare women from doing something that could positively change their life.

Myth 1: Your breast will look fake!

The idea that it’s obvious to tell who has had breast implants simply by observing the size of the breasts is outdated.  This may be true many years ago when it was popular to big! In current times, most women who choose to have breast implants will opt to have implants to enhance their look with an increase in size that is natural, balanced, and proportionate with their body.  Women have many options when it comes to breast implant size, shape, and profile. Dr. Beber will go over your options based on your goals and anatomy and make the decision with you to achieve the best cosmetic outcome.

Myth 2: Silicone implant are not safe.

Silicone breast implants has been approved by FDA and Health Canada to be safe to use for breast augmentation and breast reconstruction.  Hundreds of thousands of women over the years have enjoyed silicone breast implants.  Silicone implants have been studied for years and it is in many other products that we use daily. Silicone implants are safe.

Myth 3: You have to replace your implants every 10 years.

This is simply incorrect.  Breast implants do not need to be replaced unless you want to change the size, have additional procedures such as a breast lift, or in rare situations where there is a rupture.

Myth 4: You have to change your life activities. No more sky diving!

Some people have the notion that your life activities will need to change and this is also untrue.  After your breast augmentation procedure Dr. Beber will provide you will instructions and guidelines showing you how to ensure that you will have a speedy recovery.  There will be limitations and some activities will be limited until you are fully recovered.  Once the recovery period is complete you will be able to return to your normal activities if that include sky diving, kickboxing, scuba diving and even roller coaster rides.

Myth 5: Getting large implants will correct my sagging breasts.

Having larger breast implants will lift the breasts is a misconception.  If your breasts are sagging or droopy and your nipples are below your breasts chances are you will need to have a breast lift procedure. Getting implants will not correct your nipple position. In this situation, most women will have a breast lift with implants to achieve a lifted and fuller look.
